Switchboard, aka public branch exchange or PBX, used at Ackemann Bros. Store in Elgin, Illinois. An operator would connect incoming phone calls to the correct department in the store. Repeating patterns of the cables and the plugs standing at attention, tell us how this early telephone technology stands at the ready to keep the masses connected.This object is in the Elgin History Museum collection. This image is included in the Art in Artifacts Exhibit.
