Description
A close in view of old milk bottles are the subject of this abstract photo. The special aesthetic of this photo comes from graceful and repeating pattern of the curves, and the combination of natural window light and artificial light from an overhead chandelier which gives the image its unique colors, and lastly, the raised lettering which creates a point of interest. Two of these bottles are from the Oakley Elm Dairy and the third is from the Wm. Ostdick Dairy. In the 1890’s there were over 100 dairy farms in the Elgin area. Much of the milk that was produced at that time was used to make condensed milk. Home delivery of milk was common until the 1950’s. The bottles are in the Elgin History Museum collection. This image is included in the Art in Artifacts exhibit.
