Description
A hundred years ago the Fox River in northern Illinois was a major source of power for local manufacturers. Water was diverted from the river via sluices and ran turbines that generated power to the plants. The flow of the water was controlled with gates that were lifted up and down. While this technology has long been abandoned, there are a few relics left behind such as the gears in this image which were part of the lift mechanism. Now rusted and covered with organic material they make a unique abstract that can remind us of days gone by.
